F350 Oil Change, Ball Joints, And New Radiator, Oh My!

So, just when you think everything is going smooth and that you tackled all the big stuff on your new 1 Ton truck purchase, you get the bad news that more things were identified that were missed in the initial pre-purchase inspection. Blah!

Today, going in for a routine oil change so that the truck would be ready for the trip to San Antonio, Texas in a week (It’s maiden voyage), I find out that the radiator has a hairline crack near the top and that both the upper and lower ball joints are in really bad condition on the front passenger side.

Obviously, I had them repaired today so that the truck can still make the trip. It was just a little bit of a surprize. Keeping in mind that this Ford F350 1 Ton Crew Cab has a mechanically sound engine, transmission, and no body damage, even these unexpected repair costs still have me feeling comfortable with the combined total investment so far.

If we tally everything up, including; Truck purchase, registration, inspection, insurance, repair costs, etc. the total investment sits at $4,100 (Minus inspection, insurance, registration, title transfer of $425 the truck & repairs itself is more like $3,675). NADA shows this 1996 F350 1-Ton Crew Cab truck in it’s current condition being valued between $5,500 to $10,000. I think I still got a great deal!
