Penny Pinching Tips

I am one of those people that love to brag how much I spend on items only because of how little I spend! Right now I enjoy the money I save buying gently used items for our newest edition baby Jules. In my opinion, I don’t see the point of spending full price on any baby item that will only last a few weeks or months when you can pay resale or get it free. I will share several of my go-to places for cheap clothes, toys, baby items and furniture with everyone.

What do babies and kids go through the most? Clothes and shoes.  Never hesitate to accept hand-me-downs from friends and family. I have received some of the cutest and unique items in hand-me-down clothes and shoes. Also, learn where all your local thrift and discount stores are located. Eric and I have 5 local Goodwill’s, several resale children stores, huge thrift centers and a few mom and pop places we love to frequent. Most of these places have name brand clothing like new and brand new for 75% off retail and some even have $1 racks. The shoes at these places are mostly name brand, gently used up until a certain size and 80 – 90% off retail.

The above-mentioned stores are also great for certain baby items that are a necessity like strollers, highchairs, bouncy seats, big activity toys and baby swings. Eric and I found a stroller and swing at Once upon a Child and spent $45 total. They both were in great condition and the stroller retailed for $250 and the swing $99. My stepmom bought an exer saucer baby activity seat there for Jules to have at her house and saved about 80% off retail price. At Goodwill, we found a diaper changing table with drawers for $9 and a huge activity toy box with beads you slide and blocks you move for $8 (that retailed around $100).

On-line is another wonderful place to find resale, gently used and brand new items that someone simply never got to use. I belong to several Beg, Barter or sale sites on Facebook. I bought two Boppy s for $5, 6 baby gowns for $5, a Vtech activity Walker for $10 and actually picked up baby sleepers that were new and free as well as free storage bottles (still brand new in boxes) for breastfeeding and unopened boxes of product for free people could not use and did not want to waste. I also belong to a few local neighborhood sites where people sell and give away items. Ebay and Amazon also offer some pretty amazing deals at times too.  I know some people use Craigslist where they have free items and gently used clothing but I am just not comfortable personally with that site.

Please let me know if you have any great locations for thrift deals locally or online.
