RV / Motorhome Hunting, Oh My!
So, we put a budget aside for an older model RV / Motorhome so that we can get back out on the road again. After looking at all the different options available (E.g. 5th wheels, bumper pulls, Class A’s, Class B’s, Class C’s, Diesel pushers, Pop ups, slide in truck campers, etc.) we decided that a Class C would probably best suit our needs since its not too big, not too small, and allows us the ability to bring friends or family sometimes with extra sleeping areas.
With our small budget we won’t be able to get into anything new or extravagant, however we can at least buy an older model 70’s to early 90’s outright (Title in hand) and do our own upgrades and repairs where needed. Ideally, we would like to add Solar panels and a portable wind turbine to assist with off-grid power so that we don’t have to be dependent on shore power or RV parks.
My last RV was a 1983 Toyota Dolphin 19″ motorhome and I went all over the country in that thing. I’m excited and looking forward to doing it again with my wife so she can experience the snow-bird lifestyle, culture, and American history driving cross country to visit landmarks and the beauty of nature in areas many people have never ventured before. There’s no tourism guide for where we’ll be going. A Star Trek slogan comes to mind: “To boldly go where no man has gone before”!
I’m definitely ready for an adventure. Wish us luck in finding a cost effective RV to start upgrading. It would be nice to find something within the next month or two.
